Privacy policy
PiPCapture is a menu bar recorder that runs on your Mac. This policy explains what the app does with information, which is very little, and what it never does. There is no server behind PiPCapture, no account, and nothing for us to collect.
01What PiPCapture stores, and where
- Your recordings. Written as timestamped
.mp4files straight to the folder you choose —~/Movies/PiPCaptureunless you change it. They stay on your disk. They are never uploaded, scanned, indexed or opened by us. - Your settings. Quality preset, frame rate, codec, capture engine, audio options, output folder, maximum recording length, and your global hotkey. Stored in macOS preferences on your Mac only.
- The last window you picked. So the app can offer it again next time, PiPCapture remembers the window's identifier, the owning app's bundle identifier, and the window's title — which for a browser panel is often the title of what was playing. This stays in macOS preferences on your Mac and is never sent anywhere. Choosing a different window replaces it.
- A folder bookmark. If you pick an output folder outside your Movies folder, macOS gives the app a security-scoped bookmark so it can still write there after a restart. It records that one folder and nothing else.
If you delete the app, the settings and the bookmark go with it. Your recordings are ordinary files and stay where you saved them until you delete them yourself.
02What leaves your Mac
In normal use, nothing. PiPCapture contains no networking code of its own, contacts no server of ours, and we do not run one.
- Buying or restoring Pro. The single exception. When you unlock PiPCapture Pro or tap Restore Purchase, the app asks Apple's App Store, through Apple's StoreKit, whether your Apple ID owns the unlock. That conversation is between your Mac and Apple. We never see your name, your email address, your Apple ID or your payment details, and we receive no personal data from Apple — only anonymous, aggregated sales reports.
The app is sandboxed by macOS and is permitted to write only to your Movies folder and to a folder you have explicitly chosen.
03Screen Recording permission
macOS requires Screen Recording permission for any app that captures window contents, so PiPCapture asks for it the first time you record. What that permission allows, and what PiPCapture actually does with it, are not the same thing.
- One window, chosen by you. PiPCapture captures the single window you select, never the whole screen and never the windows behind it.
- Only between Record and Stop. Nothing is captured before you press Record or after you press Stop. Listing the windows you can choose from does not read their contents.
- Frames go to the encoder and to your file. They are held in memory only long enough to be written, and they leave your Mac at no point.
- Audio comes from the browser, not a microphone. Sound is taken from the application that owns the window. PiPCapture holds no microphone or camera entitlement and cannot reach either.
- Content protection still applies. PiPCapture records through Apple's ScreenCaptureKit, so video protected by DRM is excluded by macOS itself and records as a black frame.
04What PiPCapture does not do
- No analytics, telemetry or crash reporting are sent to us.
- No advertising identifiers are read, and no tracking in the App Store sense takes place.
- No data is sold, shared for marketing, or combined with other sources.
- No account, sign-in, email address or phone number is asked for.
- No third-party SDK is embedded. The app links only Apple's own frameworks.
05Children
PiPCapture is not directed at children under 13 and collects no personal data from anyone.
06Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have rights to access, correct and erase personal data held about you. Because PiPCapture holds no personal data about you, and we operate no server and no database, there is nothing for us to access, correct or delete on request. Everything the app keeps is on your own Mac and under your control. If you have a question, email hi@parkinsad.com.
07Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this address with a new effective date.
