Terms of use
PiPCapture is a menu bar recorder for macOS. These terms cover what you may record with it, how the one-time Pro unlock works, and what the app does and does not promise. They are short because the app is simple and holds nothing of yours.
01The licence
PiPCapture is distributed through the Mac App Store, so your licence is Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement. That agreement governs your use of the app. The terms on this page sit alongside it and explain the parts specific to PiPCapture; where the two ever disagree, Apple's agreement wins.
Apple is not a party to these terms, is not responsible for the app, and its only obligations to you are the ones set out in its own agreement.
02What you may record
PiPCapture is a tool. What you point it at is your responsibility, and recording something does not give you rights to it.
- Record only what you are entitled to record. Lectures and webinars you may keep, calls and meetings you have permission to record, demos and bug reports, and your own material. Copyright, contract and privacy law all still apply, and in some places recording a conversation without the consent of those in it is a criminal offence.
- Content protection is not to be circumvented. PiPCapture records through Apple's ScreenCaptureKit, so material macOS marks as protected is held back by the system and never reaches the file. The app does not work around that, is not built to, and you agree not to use it in an attempt to.
- You carry the consequences. You are responsible for your recordings and for any claim arising from how you made or used them.
03PiPCapture Pro
- One purchase, not a subscription. Pro is a single non-consumable in-app purchase. It unlocks 1440p, 4K and full native size, and removes the badge from the corner of your recordings. Nothing recurs and nothing expires.
- It follows your Apple ID. Restore Purchase brings it back on another Mac signed in to the same Apple ID. There is no account with us, and no sign-up.
- The price you see is the price. The unlock button shows the App Store's own localised price for your storefront. Apple takes the payment; we never see your card, your Apple ID or your name.
- Free stays useful. The free app records at up to 1080p with a small badge, and is not time-limited.
04Refunds
Purchases are made from Apple, so refunds come from Apple rather than from us — request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue, refuse or reverse a payment we never received. If something in the app is broken, email hi@parkinsad.com and we will try to fix it.
05What the app does not promise
PiPCapture is provided as it is. It is tested, but it is not warranted to be uninterrupted or error-free, and recording quality depends on things outside the app — the stream a browser is playing, the speed of your disk, and what macOS allows a sandboxed app to capture.
Nothing here removes rights you have as a consumer under the law of your country, which cannot be signed away.
06Liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for lost recordings, lost time, or any indirect or consequential loss arising from using PiPCapture. Keep your own copies of anything that matters. Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
07Privacy
PiPCapture has no server, no account and no analytics, and your recordings never leave your Mac. The privacy policy sets out the detail.
08Changes
If these terms change, the new version will be published at this address with a new effective date. Continuing to use the app after that means accepting the revised terms.
09Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory law of the country you live in, and may bring proceedings in your own courts.
